Reza Moridi Must Apologize

On Sunday, at a protest event at North York Civic Centre, Minister Reza Moridi repeated and encouraged chants calling for the death of Iran’s President, Hassan Rouhani. Reza Moridi Must Apologize

On Sunday, at a protest event at North York Civic Centre, Minister Reza Moridi repeated and encouraged chants calling for the death of Iran’s President, Hassan Rouhani. While Minister Moridi was repeating the chants, "[The people of Iran] have said, 'Marg bar Rouhani [death to Rouhani]", it's evidently clear from the unedited video that he incited the crowd and even paused to allow the group to echo the chants of death.

When a crowd chanted “lock her up” about Alberta Premier Rachel Notley during former immigration minister, Chris Alexander’s speech in 2016, local politicians immediately criticized Alexander’s silence and called out the chants as "extremely concerning". Canadians expect their political leaders to denounce such behaviour unequivocally.

Similarly, Iranian-Canadians were disturbed by Sunday’s event and Moridi’s actions (or lack of). As Canadians, we stand against violence, and hate, including any chants that call death on any individual.

We call on the Premier to take a firm stand and request Reza Moridi to apologize for inciting violence and hate.
